HORSES The first time I rode I was three years old on a friends farm, and from then I was hooked. I started taking lessons at a riding school once a week at age seven and then had lease of a riding school pony for 4 days a week until I was 12. I was then riding friends horses as well as leasing a pony called George. When I turned 13 my parents bought me my first pony, a 28 year old anglo-arab gelding called Sam. Sam was an old hat at everything pony club but loved to test me. He soon was too old to take me any further and so we gave him back to the lady that bred him, who's daughter now rides him. I then bought a Connemara cross mare called Sammy who had been trained for dressage. When she was six and I was fourteen I took her through her first season of eventing, before I sadly outgrew her. My next horse (and first hack) was a beautiful chestnut gelding called Oliver. Ollie taught me everything I needed to know and is now semi retired with a loving family that goes to the same pony club as me. My current horse is Harry, a 16hh Thoroughbred Gelding whom I've been eventing for three years now. He's taken me from pre-training right up to open eventing, and in return I've attempted to teach him dressage =] Last season Harry and I were chosen for the Waitemata district development squad, came 2nd overall at the area training one day event and were then selected to compete at Timberlands, a team horse trial which includes groups from all over the north island. I've since passed my B certificate on him and my goals for this season are to compete at timerblands again and to be placed at the next level up, open.
